Instead of those old-school tungsten filaments, we went with carbon fiber tucked inside a quartz envelope. The result? It doesn’t just “warm up” the air around it. It blasts heat directly onto your target via radiation. It’s fast. Really fast. The Nitty-Gritty The “SK15” part is basically just the name for the spring-loaded pin connector. We designed it this way because, let’s be honest, standard R7s sockets are way too clunky for tight spaces. Depending on how long you need the tube to be, these usually run on high-voltage circuits. This keeps the current draw low and the heat high. The best part is the ramp-up time. You flip the switch, and the carbon element hits its operating temp in seconds. No more standing around waiting for a ceramic heater to finally wake up. A Couple of Warnings We use quartz glass because it lets the infrared heat pass through without blocking it. And we use carbon fiber because it doesn’t sag when things get scorching hot, so your heat stays steady from one end of the tube to the other. But here’s the thing:keep your hands off the glass. Seriously. Even a tiny fingerprint or a smudge of oil can create a hot spot. When that happens, the thermal stress can actually crack the quartz. Just keep it clean, and you’re golden. Putting It to Work You’ll mostly see these in PET bottle blowing machines or high-speed curing lines. If you’re currently using halogen tubes but the heat curve isn’t quite right, these are a great swap. A pro tip? Pair these with a PID controller. It stops the temperature from overshooting and keeps things stable. Also, check your reflectors. Since these lamps pack so much heat into such a small area, you want polished aluminum. If your reflectors are pitted or looking a bit rusty, you’re just wasting energy by heating up your machine frame instead of your workpiece.
