Unlike those old-school metal coils, carbon fiber doesn’t struggle with voltage drops. It hits high surface temperatures almost instantly. It’s fast. Really fast. And that means the heat actually sinks into your materials rather than just bouncing off the surface.
Getting the power right
Here is the thing about wattage: you can’t just cram a ton of power into a short tube. If you do, you’re basically asking the quartz to hit its breaking point. It’ll burn out way too soon. You also have to be spot-on with your voltage. Whether you’re running 220V or 400V, it has to match the tube’s internal resistance perfectly. If it’s off? You’ll either get a lukewarm heater or a filament that snaps the second you flip the switch. Not a great way to start the morning.
The nitty-gritty on materials
The quartz glass isn’t just for show—it keeps the carbon from oxidizing and dying. Depending on what you’re heating, we can add specific coatings to shift the wavelength. It’s all about making sure the heat hits your specific material just right. For the plugs, we stick with R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re simple, reliable, and usually slide right into most industrial housings without a fight. Plus, they keep a tight grip, so you don’t have to worry about electrical arcing when things get hot.
Real-world use (and the pitfalls)
You’ll see these all over PET blowing lines and paint curing setups. The best part is the heat is steady across the whole tube, unlike those halogen lamps that can be a bit patchy. But a word of caution: these things gethot. Like, really hot. If you don’t have your cooling fans and heat shields dialed in, you’re asking for trouble. If the housing traps too much heat, your connectors might melt or the quartz could crack from the thermal shock. It’s a powerful tool, but you’ve got to give it room to breathe.
