Let’s Talk Carbon Fiber Infrared Lamps
We build these lamps over in Korea, and they’re designed for those moments when you need a massive amount of heat, and you need it now. Most people are used to standard quartz heaters, but we do things a bit differently. We use a carbon fiber filament tucked inside a quartz envelope. The result? The heat penetrates much deeper into your materials, and the warm-up time is practically non-existent. You flip the switch, and it’s hot. The Power Side of Things Depending on what your machine can handle, we can tweak the voltage and wattage to fit your power rail. Usually, we lean toward high-wattage output because that’s how you get the fastest heat transfer. But here’s the thing: if you go with a high-voltage tube, your heat footprint gets tighter. It’s a bit of a trade-off. When you’re dealing with that kind of heat density, you’ve got to make sure your reflectors are polished to a mirror finish and your cooling fans are actually up to the task. Otherwise, you risk burning out the ends of the lamp. Why Carbon Fiber? The magic is in the filament. Carbon fiber handles the “stretch and shrink” of heating and cooling way better than tungsten does. This means your lamps won’t just snap when you’re cycling the power on and off all day. We use standard connectors—think R7s or Sk15—so you can just pop them into your existing setup without a headache. And if you’re chasing a specific wavelength, we can add special coatings to the quartz. This keeps the tube from absorbing its own heat and puts the energy exactly where you need it. Where This Actually Works You’ll see these lamps doing the heavy lifting in PET bottle blowing or curing automotive paint. In PET blowing, speed is everything. You need to soften that plastic preform quickly, but if you overdo it, you’ll scorch the material. That’s where these lamps shine. Just pair them with a PID controller to keep your temperature zones locked in. One last tip: these things pull a lot of current. Double-check your wiring gauge. If your runs are long, you don’t want to deal with voltage drops halfway through your oven.
